Design a mobile app

About Arbomulch

Arbomulch is a startup based in Australia. They connect gardeners and arborists with the objective of reducing waste in the wood industry via a dedicated app.

For both economic and cultural reasons, Australians are among the top mulch consumers in the world. Yet, traditional distribution channels are not satisfying (supply chain, premium prices, single use packaging) and this is why Arbomulch was created, providing a local solution to reduce carbon footprint and increase natural resources reuse.

Project

The founding team members of Arbomulch had the idea of a mobile and desktop app based on an interactive mapping. The platform is to be used by arborists and gardeners. Gardeners register their need for mulch, while arborists pick a local choice to drop their load. So we needed to create 2 different onboarding processes and custom functionalities.

On top of the platform design and development, Arbomulch needed a consultant to identify market needs, enhance their value proposition and figure out a profitable business model.

Custom-made functionalities

In order to validate the main app functionalities, we ran a pull of interviews with the targeted users (10 arborists, 10 gardeners).

Following those interviews, we established a list of specs, ranked from “nice to have” to “must have”.

3 main functionalities have been selected for arborists users:

  • an interactive map showing the different dropping possibilities next to their worksite.
  • information about mulch quantity needed so that they make sure they drop their full load.
  • photos of the drop zone to ensure suitable access for the trucks.

As for gardeners, they mainly expect an easy-to-use platform, along with data privacy.
